A Season of Thanks

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving season? That is a question many of us will hear in the coming weeks as we move closer to Thanksgiving Day. This question often requires reflection and helps us to appreciate all of the unnoticed blessings in our lives. Personally, I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for a church that has a heart for the community and growing closer in their walk with God. But most of all, I am thankful I have a savior willing to die for my sins. I am thankful for grace I do not deserve. I am thankful for hope rather than despair.

In the first chapter of Luke’s Gospel, Mary sings a song of praise to God for the blessing she has received: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the mighty one has done great things for me—holy is his name.” (Luke 1:46-49) In the same way that Mary gave praise to God for his blessings to her, we are to give thanks with a grateful heart for the things that God has done for us. As you sit down to your Thanksgiving feast in a few weeks, I challenge you to reflect on all of the blessings God has given you. He has made the poor rich and the weak strong. Therefore, Let us give thanks to the Lord.
